scrutiny

The author of happy endings argues that the actual story lies in the details, or the bricks as we would call them. She has heard all the facts but wants to know the emotional part of the story the details. When Babette tells Jack her confession she leaves out nearly all of the details and gives him small facts here and there. By doing this she really isnt telling him the story, she is simply giving him facts. In doing so she truely doesnt explain herself or provide any emotional part of the story other than simple ones "desperate, and such". I believe Jack feels cheated to an extent because before she begins her story she says she wants to confide in, but she doesnt confide anything in him other than the fact that she was taking illegal medication and had an affair to do so.
